First impression is that the wires seem a bit flimsy. But that was in direct comparison to the more voracious old icicle lamps that simply needed thicker wires. After untangling the light garlands in the kit, which was no easy task, there were no complaints about the quality. The cables could have been a bit longer, but they allowed me to place the controller somewhere protected from the weather. The remote certainly isn't of the highest build quality, but it will come in handy and do the job. The timer feature is generally useful, but the controller designer should learn again. Forgot a setting after a power failure? This is generally a bad idea. Once you've decided on a backlight scheme, it should appear by default every time you turn on the device. But - it's not like that here. My other Christmas lights are set for 2am and 6am. If the controls for these icicle strings were properly designed, the lights could be turned on and off using the same external timer. Instead, only 1 internal time cycle (6 hours) is available. This works as long as there are no power outages. Unplugging the power cord resets the device to factory settings. Without this problem I would have given 5 stars.
