First I bought this product because it is very cute, fits the theme of my newborn's room and has a detailed description with all the benefits. When I received the owl I was a bit surprised by its size (I had read the previous review before purchasing) but it didn't bother me. The building instructions are easy to read and I got a free subscription to Parents Magazine too! The first night my fiance and I used the Owl we were very impressed with the clean and quiet flow it produces. They shoot straight up, so you'll want it on a medium surface so condensation doesn't collect on ceiling or wall items. The first night was fine with little to no difference in health but with most products it takes time to get established. Owly had a specific new product smell that was annoying and since we had the setup upstairs in our small bedroom I felt like I could smell the new smell when I woke up. Rough. Anyway, we've been using Owly consistently for about a week, but it hasn't relieved us of symptoms like nasal congestion, nasal congestion, dry cough (and wishful thinking), my fiancé's snoring. After not using it for several weeks; maybe 4, I noticed a white build up around the nebula holes and decided to clean them. The hard water took a toll on the poor owl and we spent about 30 minutes scraping and washing it. While it's our fault that it's been left unmaintained for so long, I hope Crane comes up with a better design in the future that reduces such issues with less maintenance. It would be nice to even add some sort of free filter. After cleaning, some white spots remained, partly due to cracks that were difficult to access (please make a brush for this). Aside from the smell of a new product and the weekly need for owl grooming, I'm still waiting for a product that surprises me. I will update my review if anything changes for the health of my growing family.
