Review on πŸ”Œ Streamline Your Vehicle's Electrical System with CURT 56202 T-Connector Wiring by Cesar Hubbard

How to fix when it has stopped working and is out of warranty; Review: never worked for me - controller box not working upon arrival

GOOD TIP: if you have this and it no longer works, simply cut out the controller box (see image) and connect They all wires together. (A control box is not required. Its purpose is only to prevent your vehicle's electrical system from powering additional headlights from the same circuit, increasing the chance of a blown fuse.) Cut the wires as close to the converter box as possible . as far as possible so you have enough length. The green wire (right taillight) is the shortest. If you do this everything will work fine. If you are out of warranty or in dire straits and don't have time to call Kurt for a replacement, this will save you. Review: I bought this in March 2015 when my family and I were moving so I could rent a trailer to help with the move. I installed everything according to the instructions but when I went to the U-Haul dealer the headlights didn't work. Luckily the U-Haul guy let me take the trailer anyway and I only moved during the day. After returning the trailer, I pulled the fuse on the wiring harness and forgot about it. Fast forward to last weekend (July 4th, 2016) and I had to use the trailer again. This time I had more time to troubleshoot and found that the converter box was not sending any signals to the wiring harness. If I left the fuse on, I also noticed that it kept powering the brake lights and draining the battery. I didn't notice it during the day, my wife noticed it in the middle of the night because the light was very dim. The next morning I had a trailer to pick up, so I crossed my fingers and drove off. Still nothing, no light. Again the U-Haul guy was nice and let me go. However, this time I was out at night and didn't feel safe without a light. In short, I completely cut out the converter box and connected all the wires directly. Voila! Everything worked great. Basically, this converter box isn't needed at all and it now sits on my desk at work as a $50 paperweight (I'm an electrical engineer so I'll see if I can open it and see what happens). Two stars at least cause T-connectors and cables that simplify installation / connection to taillights. So much for "surface mount technology".

Pros
  • connectors
Cons
  • cable shorter than others
