Oxo normally make good kitchenware. I bought this one for its good looks and the auto open mechanism which I found useful. I assumed that the basic features one would expect from a kettle, including the lack of water drips on the outside of the spout, were self-evident. However, I sent one of them back for exactly this reason - I thought it must be a coincidence - and exchanged it for a second one that showed exactly the same behavior. Didn't anyone at the Oxo design center try them before they went on sale? I think it could be a gag gift, like a dropper but one that spills boiling water on tables and laps. You should look elsewhere for a handy kettle.
