Review on Solimo 5-Blade Razor for Women with Handle, 12 Cartridges & Shower Hanger - Compatible with Solimo Razor Handles only, by Amazon Brand by Lindsay Erdman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This (former) Dorco Shai girl has found a new love (but there's a catch)

I've been a Dorco devotee for years after giving up those expensive branded razors like Lady Gillette. I refused to use anything other than Dorko which I could only find here on Revane. However, about two months ago I broke an old Dorco grip that I had been using for over two years and I found missing a few bucks to replace the handle (and blades were needed too, but Dorcos always lasted longer. Definitely.) For no good reason, I "shopped" here at Revain looking for a cheaper alternative to my perfect dorco shai and stumbled across this brand I had never heard of.For sheer cost reasons (about $18 for 12 blades not $22 for 10 blades + handle) I gave it a try.Oh god that is all I can say Pros -1) The smoothest, smoothest shave I've ever had with no exceptions The hair actually seems to grow back more slowly as the shave is so close 2) The blades last a very long time I just got it my first razor after 7 weeks of use (and no, I do NOT use ANY of those ridiculous blade-saving practices like blow-drying after each use). 3) No shaving cream needed! I save even more money by not buying shaving lotion/cream. The lubricating strip ensures a comfortable, close and smooth shave with just water. Disadvantages -1) Hangers with suction cups are not very reliable. He has fallen in the shower several times, but occasionally stays in place. 2) "Pink Tax". As another reviewer mentioned, a comparable men's shaving set (1 handle and 16 blades, also with a greased strip, and the men's version has a trimmer but no hanger) costs $1.05 per blade, while this women's set is $1.58 for the blade costs. There are no ladies sets of 16 blades, but count. We pay over $6 more for every 16 blades we buy to match the amount of spare cartridges in the men's set and there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two versions. Hanger aside, if you split the cost "per unit" as stated on Revain, it's clearly about the blades and not the hilt or hanger. So why should women charge more for these blades (both also five change heads) with blades? It's kind of a dirty pool, Solimo/Revane. I could call this CS number and complain directly. The only reason(s) for 4 stars instead of 5 has to do with the pretty useless hanger and that outrageous pink tax. If women's razors cost the same as men's razors (or men's razors cost the same as women's razors) then I might as well give five stars and forget the flimsy tag, but the pink tax is a bitter pill to swallow.
