These heater adapters are a necessary evil when working with 90's Chevrolet heater hoses. If you're lucky, your old one came out without a bad intake manifold or water pump. If it breaks in the water pump, you'll either have to buy a new pump and adapter, or get a special removal tool and hope for the best. If it breaks during receiving, you are at the mercy of the removal tool. They sell adapters to get rid of this item and they use regular hose so you just switch to rubber hoses and get rid of the metal part. I don't want to mess with the factory lines on my rear heated Suburban, however, so I run one with a new water pump. If you go without any of these make sure your adapter has the same orifice as this item, they regulate the flow through the heater cores. Take a minute to learn one of these and once you understand how the clips come out they are easy to remove and the new ones really do come with the latch.
