Review on BTMETER BT-1500 Non-Contact Pyrometer: Industrial Laser Thermometer Gun for High Temperature Measurements by David Romo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Overall a very good pyrometer with a temperature range well above average

I bought it for metalworking as it goes up to 2732 degrees. These are my first thoughts after first use. Likes - Good design, rubber grip feels good in hand. - A distance ratio of 30:1 means it has a small beam. The beam is framed by two laser spots (you can choose one or none) so you can see what you are measuring. This allows you to measure in a narrow area behind objects. The high temperature range allows me to measure hot metals in the range I need. This is two to three times higher than most infrared meters. - Comes with a soft pouch. - You can set the beeps (high and low) when the temperature is reached. Useful when machining metal. -Has more functions like registering maximum high temperature, maximum low temperature, average temperature, difference. -Turn on/off the backlight of the display. It's useful to see the display when working in low light conditions. - Flashlight mode to illuminate the object in low light conditions. - Emissivity adjustment. The emissivity is the ratio of the reflected heat. Adjusting this setting allows you to more accurately measure highly reflective objects that other gauges reject. For example, water is different from snow. There is a minimal diagram in the book, but you can find much larger diagrams online. The default .95 seems to work for the hardware I'm working with. Not critical, but there may be circumstances when you need rest. The automatic shutdown works a little quickly, but again not critical. All in all a solid product for my metalworking needs.
