Pretty quiet, a little noisy, but real. it's a bunch of fans and that's expected. It blows hot air out of the bottom of your computer, and if you have an air intake on the bottom of your laptop, at least one of the fans should be able to get there with no problem. .This stand is a little thin. The pins on the front break easily but your laptop tends to hold them in place anyway so no big deal with that, the legs on the back also slide out easily but slide back in so it's at its worst at times Case is just an inconvenience to be honest although mine goes through a lot. So far I've had my 6 months for $30 if it lasts another 6 months (looks like it will). I died with it https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009GUXG92/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as it was pretty cheap and about the right length.
