I love these socks. My husband and son used them for hunting and outdoor activities and said that even when the water got wet in their boots or when they sweated when they took their socks off at the end of the day, their feet were warm and dry, though the outside of the socks were completely soaked. . My son said if he crossed a stream where the waterline was above his toe some water would seep through the cuff but as long as the waterline was below the cuff his feet stayed dry. We ordered this pair and the Coolvent version. The Coolvent version has thicker/fluffier padding in the sole. I would recommend very careful hand washing according to manufacturer's instructions and caution children not to carry them around the house for occasional play to avoid tearing or puncture the neoprene layer. My husband and son felt they only needed washing after 4-5 wears, after which they became stiff. After washing and air drying, the socks are soft and cuddly again. They don't seem to retain an odor like other heavy socks. They take about 24 hours to air dry indoors, after excess water has been removed by pressing them between two towels. As such, they are somewhat demanding to maintain and expensive, but they are worth it.
