Review on OXO BREW Conical Burr Coffee Grinder: Precision Grinding with Built-in Scale by Mario Collins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's closer to the spot than most more expensive alternatives

I checked it out. We bought it from Revain in August 2016. At the same time I bought a matching dripper, which seems to be somewhere else as it is not in my order history. I remember being in awe of the coffee maker until it broke within the first year. At that time, both the coffee maker and the coffee grinder were new. A pot because it was a glass kettle which was interesting to watch coffee being brewed and a coffee grinder because of its weight. The Mill is still a rare bird; Weight measurement at an affordable price. For more than two years, the military has been using it twice, sometimes three times a day. That equates to 30 or more cups of java a day in my caffeine-affected family. That's the problem. I'm a mechanic at heart, so I've tinkered with coffee just as much as I did with motorcycles. Whether it’s a portafilter or a filter coffee machine, it brews different amounts of coffee per cup depending on the degree of grinding. Grind quality decisions cannot be reliably compared unless the same volume of coffee is used for comparison. There are other variables, but the baseline isn't possible until you pour the same amount of coffee into a cup. Neither time nor measuring cup have any influence. scales do it. The legal gear will scream bloodily that this mediocre brand is unable to deliver quality crushing. OK Good. Uncle. My heart belongs to Rocky, there are two of them, one for gunshots, one for everything else, and even this respectable old soldier is unacceptable for today's espesso chic. Meh, I'm a happy dinosaur. This oxo is based on scales. There are more expensive scale-based machines. There are more expensive time-based machines. There are machines that do not use the mechanoelectric measuring method. Here, too, my trusty old Rockys sit next to Oxo as a role model. This machine is capable of delivering quality grinds across the entire drip/press spectrum and the cup contains a sample at a consistently reliable amount. You can experiment with the grind, but the amount of product will remain the same. This is not a commercial, not an artisanal production. This is a home use drill with an amazing weight control feature for less than $200. So what is lost in a car at such a low price? Well, when I'm the referee, I'm talking about a tenure. For over twenty years I have changed the millstones in both Rockys and the torque switch in one. Engines work like day one. This OXO dies a slow death. We currently use a Technivorm 15 cup drip machine and when we got the coffee maker I was able to run the grinder and it would provide the required amount of ground coffee and shut off before the coffee maker tank was half full. Now, two and a half years later and after countless cleanings, the grinder does about half of its work when the coffee machine is refilled. Recently, Oxo requires millstones to be massaged more than once a week to restore functionality. spare millstones for him. This may be a partial solution, but another downside to having a home car is the lack of available parts. Then, and the biggest problem for most, is the clutter. Static pixies wreak havoc with this plastic bin. However, this is easy to fix. Well, 90% less chaos. Realistically less than $20 is day and night. Plus drinking glasses SS. Everyone said that I'm going to buy another Oxo now. It's so cheap I can get reliable mugs for less than $100 a year, and it's so easy to use that my wife recommends it. My affection for my Rockies is not shared by the one who suffers greatly when she has to babysit Rocky during surgery.
