If camera manufacturers made SLR/DSLR cameras a little taller and more comfortable I probably wouldn't use a battery grip. But the simple fact that the grip does exactly what allows you to hold the camera much more securely makes it worthwhile in my opinion. This includes both horizontal and vertical alignment. And with additional control buttons for vertical shooting, it's also very convenient. With two rechargeable batteries, I was able to take over 800 shots before the battery indicator moved a notch. And the ingenious possibility of charging six standard "A" rechargeable batteries when needed saved me before. In fact, the charge of the double-A battery lasted a very long time. I have never tried third party grips and have been more than happy with this genuine brand of Canon grips. Pairing with the camera is an extremely strong connection that has never come loose but is very easy and quick to remove if needed. Pros: Full camera integration, extremely long battery life, excellent camera shooting ability, advanced button controls for vertical shooting, quick and easy battery swapping. Cons: A bit heavy with two "A" batteries, adds a bit more overall height to the camera than I'd like.
