Type of review

I burned myself buying non-branded items so I went for a Canon branded battery grip even though it was a bit more expensive than fakes. What I liked about it: it fits well and looks good on my t5i. It includes a battery door so you don't lose it, has a small support for larger hands and comes with 2 holders: one holds up to 2 rechargeable camera batteries; the other holds 6 standard AA batteries (which helps in an emergency), makes portrait mode photography easy with handy standard controlsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Camera and photo
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Works great with battery grips

If camera manufacturers made SLR/DSLR cameras a little taller and more comfortable I probably wouldn't use a battery grip. But the simple fact that the grip does exactly what allows you to hold the camera much more securely makes it worthwhile in my opinion. This includes both horizontal and vertical alignment. And with additional control buttons for vertical shooting, it's also very convenient. With two rechargeable batteries, I was able to take over 800 shots before the battery indicatorโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Accessory
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models

Okay, but with a bang.

First off, let me say that I like this grip, even if it's not perfect. (Review based on experience with this product on the Canon T3i) Improved ergonomics, stability and features are nothing compared to the sheer durability you get from doubling the number of batteries. Canon's standard LP-E8 battery leaves a lot to be desired in terms of battery life, but when paired, the heavens open and miracles happen. Well, maybe not miracles, but 8 hours with the camera on and sleep mode off is somethingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Battery Grips
Cons
  • Big and Bulky
