Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Enhance Your Canon Camera Performance with the Canon Battery Grip BG-E8 by Jason Epstein

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Okay, but with a bang.

First off, let me say that I like this grip, even if it's not perfect. (Review based on experience with this product on the Canon T3i) Improved ergonomics, stability and features are nothing compared to the sheer durability you get from doubling the number of batteries. Canon's standard LP-E8 battery leaves a lot to be desired in terms of battery life, but when paired, the heavens open and miracles happen. Well, maybe not miracles, but 8 hours with the camera on and sleep mode off is something of a godsend. Just a quick look at the specs: this grip is fairly solidly made, the texture of the rubberized parts matches that of the T3i body, and it doesn't feel like a cheap piece of plastic. (Which it probably is) The battery compartment (both AA and LP-E8) looks crappy, like shiny brittle plastic. <- This really has nothing to do with the tray being held, it won't be subject to even the slightest mockery. The exposure buttons seem to be a bit more "popular" than the buttons on the camera itself, not quite as solid so to speak. The shutter button itself is directly 1 in 1 with the button on the camera itself and this is the MOST IMPORTANT PART. Trust me, the feel of the trigger is very important in my experience, if one button has one "feel" and another has a different "feel", it's bad, it can ruin the whole frame. Canon got it right and made it identical to the button on the body, which is amazing. Instead of pros and cons, let's make this a little more personal as I'm by no means a professional columnist! things i like! Double the battery life - Vertical AV, AE lock, focus zone, scroll wheel and shutter button - Slightly more weight and size - "Battery Door" compartment so you don't lose your stock case flap! things I don't like! - Something clicks every now and then, I have no idea what it is (I suspect it has something to do with how the grip snaps into the camera body) - When shooting horizontally, my pinky squeezes a little to find a place on the handle. To sum it up, if you want to extend your battery life, this is a must have. All other functions boil down to bells and whistles in my opinion. Before you buy, consider your needs as a photographer. What do you need? If you're a regular shooter, do you need some extra weight? Need vertical buttons? Won't your big hands make this grip uncomfortable? Will it fit in your current camera bag when attached to your camera? (Never thought about that until I had to) This product is very durable, reliable and makes a long day of shooting a lot less stressful. If this is what you want, then buy with confidence! If you're not sure if you need it or not, brew it, it's a great product but it also serves a specific market. Just don't buy it to make your rig look cool.
