I read all the reviews I could find about it and bought one because I never wanted to buy a flimsy, poor quality blender ever again. Now that I've used it I thought I'd add some information that would help me in my decision making process. Firstly, it has a soft start mode, which is common in industrial plants and significantly extends the life of the motor. It's not what you choose, it's just how it starts. Soft start means it takes a brief second to reach full speed. If it weren't, that torque would be enough to turn it right off the gauge. Second, it's intended for food, but after using it, some have concluded that it's strong enough and probably thins the wooden cord. After all, I spend most of my time in an industrial joinery by comparison. This mixer has as much horsepower as half the hardware, so the noise it makes is normal for a 3-1/2 horsepower motor, but it's at least as loud as my largest router or shaper. That's a beast. Only buy it if you need that much power and understand that power comes with a corresponding amount of noise. I don't want a restaurant to be about people trying to enjoy good food. But if you need power, she'll fucking handle it.
