Review on COGSTER Sandpaper Surface Reflectors Touring by Sam Doucette

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well made, well finished, neatly packaged, easy to assemble bicycle pedals

EDIT: I downgraded my rating from 5-star to 4-star after taking these pedals off for a 2 hour ride. And here's why: Pedal designers have made them larger than road and hybrid bikes but smaller than downhill pedals, likely to sell them to as wide a range of bikes as possible. One size fits all philosophy. But I think these pedals should come in two sizes, this size and a smaller one, 66mm front to back, not 88mm. That 88mm front-to-back suddenly had my foot wobbling, with the pedal shaft as the fulcrum, as I pedaled hard up a short, steep hill. My foot suddenly hyperextended forward so that my toe was pointing down, which put a lot of stress on the anterior tibialis tendon. It was very short because I recovered almost immediately. If you are used to smaller pedals, you should get used to this size very well before going on any strenuous climbs. ==================== I have not yet ridden a bike with these COGSTER flat sandpaper pedals but plan to do so this weekend if the weather permits allows. We had very heavy rains and floods. If my first impression turns out to be too optimistic, I will definitely update this review. The pedals are delivered neatly packed in a small cardboard box. The snap-on reflectors come in a small plastic bag and can be attached in seconds and without tools. The pedals make a stable and well-made impression. They spin smoothly, with no play or backlash. The threads are well made. The pedals are marked L and R and can be tightened with a hex wrench located in the handle. These flat pedals are best suited for use on a bike that will be used primarily on pavement or light gravel trails. The non-slip surface is like sandpaper and is designed to keep the shoe from slipping off the pedal in these conditions. The foot space is generous but not too big. We plan to use them on a hybrid bike that will be used for city commuting and going fast for exercise, fun and fresh air.

Pros
  • PERFECT FOR OUTDOOR USE: Amber reflective strips on both sides of the pedals greatly improve visibility in the dark and ensure safe night riding!
