Review on Dell S2721HGF Ultra-Thin Curved Ultrawide Display: DP Certified, 1080P, G-SYNC Compatible, HDR Enabled by Fried Abrams

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Haven't researched

I recently upgraded my graphics card and wanted to see what the framerate bump looks like and what it's like to play on a curved screen. The colors out of the box were terrible. It can best be described as: it looked washed out and dull (almost a gray-yellow tint?) out of the box. It's next to my 7 year old 60Hz monitor which looks a lot brighter and more colourful. I played with the colors for about an hour and maybe looked a little better, but I gave up. After some research, it turned out that VA monitors can usually look like this. They may have more contrast and better blacks, but they just don't stand out. Other points to note: G-Sync and 144Hz worked fine (requires DP connection, set as primary monitor and enable with GE Force). It turns out that a curved monitor isn't for me. You have to sit close (less than 2 feet?) to get the "immersive" effect, but then you can see the pixels at 1080p, and also when I'm gaming and using the controller I tend to lean back, and then it almost looks distorted. Perhaps an ultra-wide or larger curved screen would make more sense. I also work with CAD on this computer and the curved screen was definitely not a good choice for drawing a straight line at an angle and it looks curved. - Minor screen flickering occurred when scrolling through web pages and other applications. As a reminder, the brightness and colors on this VA screen are worse than my old Dell monitor. IMO, curved screens don't make much sense at this size and resolution. And Revain's return policy is great.
