Review on Transcend JetFlash Flash Drive TS32GJF790W by Bogdan Andreev ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well done, but I won't buy any more.

Chose based on the ratings and comments posted on various websites along with the reputation of the brand. I took it with me thinking it would be useful as a flash drive with a bootable OS, but now I'm not so sure. The write speed on my ancient Transcend J780 16GB flash drive from five years ago is 33Mb/s, and the read speed is 170Mb/s. Because of this, folks who are interested in making the best choice should go with this particular option. I'm not sure if flash drives have started being manufactured in a different way, or if you need to plug it into a USB3.1 port in order to see the speeds that are advertised for it. Keep in mind, however, that the write speed of random tiny blocks on the J790 will be faster than on the J780 (one megabyte per second as opposed to 0.2 megabytes per second). By the way, the picture that is shown on the box is not the same as the one that is shown in the picture. Regarding the speeds that are indicated, at my speed they are not indicated, but the USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface is indicated. PS. A further test revealed that Windows 7 had a typical write speed of 35 megabytes per second. It would appear that the cost of a flash drive still plays a factor; generally speaking, the higher the cost, the better the drive will actually be. I needed a low-cost USB flash drive that was bootable, and I also wanted to transfer some videos, so I purchased this one at a discount.

Pros
  • Nice form, however it's made of plastic. Since I have not yet put it to use, all I can offer are hypothetical scenarios and tests.
Cons
  • Due to the weakness of the mechanism that retracts, you will need to hold it while you are inserting it in the port. Strange as it may seem, the results of the test indicate that the sequential write speed on the USB3.0 port is only 15 MB/s, but the read speed is 79 MB/s. This is consistent with the USB2.0 entry, however it is inconsistent with the many reviews that are now available on the market. Amazon will soon offer comparative measurements on its website. Later on, I made some measurements on another Windows 7 computer, and the results were different. The reading speed is now 85 MB/s, while the writing speed is 35 MB/s, which is an improvement. It's likely that system firewood has something to do with this.
