Most whole house suppressors are single stage and either protect against LARGE surges while allowing small surges through or protect against only smaller surges. Even a small power surge can damage sensitive electronics, and a large power surge can damage everything, so neither option is really viable. This Siemens suppressor has three states and should work against all large and small overvoltages. It also has indicator lights so you know it's still running. It's worth spending a little more for extra peace of mind. Please note that unless you really know what you are doing you will need to hire an electrician to do the installation. It takes about 1 hour of work plus the cost of a circuit breaker to fit your fuse box.
