Painful shoes for a child - avoid

My son has been wearing Stride Rite Made 2 Play water shoes for 2 summers with no problems (and only wore Stride Rite brand shoes for 4 years) so at the beginning of the summer I got the current ones Found the version (this one) and bought the right size. I was shocked when my son, who had been wearing it for two days, complained to his teacher and me that his shoes hurt his toes, and when I pulled his foot out, both feet had small patches of red spots and peeling skin. He has plenty of room from toe to toe and is a large shoe size (which he has worn for years). So now I'm sitting on shoes that have hardly been used and can't return them because he wore them. I wished, i would have read the reviews - after this experience and wasted money i will probably switch brands. I would also like to point out that in the last 6 months, two pairs of Stride-Rite shoes have broken after 2-3 months of use (loop closure, velcro broken). The quality has gone down, but not the price. Buyer Warning.
