I had a serious PH problem and needed to make the water a little more acidic. My tank really wasn't big enough for a piece of driftwood, so this was the next best option. I put some of it in a bowl, rinsed it well and put it in my HOB filter. It didn't quite lower the pH to a neutral 7, but that's because I didn't add enough. He reduced it from 7.8 to 7.2 or so. Now everything is stable. The fish are happy and the algae problem is gone. I can add more later if needed, but don't want to risk breaking it. Keep in mind I didn't use much and always use carbon, but there were no tannins at all to stain the water. It is crystal clear and now has a safer pH level. I put it in a zippered bag and have enough for any future needs.
