Review on 🌲 Outdoor Research Meteor Charcoal X Large: Ultimate Performance and Comfort for Outdoor Enthusiasts by Rodney Mendoza

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very good mittens, but not perfect.

Excellent mitten. Very good quality with all the features you could wish for. In practice, however, I don't care about the inner/outer glove system, as I thought. If you like photographing while hiking in winter, this review might help you. I have other mittens with a standard glove liner which makes them very comfortable for photography. Just throw out the mitten and you still have some protection from the extreme cold and still have good dexterity for holding the camera and taking photos. I thought it would be even better if there were foldable mittens instead of the standard glove liners. But in practice, not everything works so smoothly. These earbuds are held in place with Velcro, which is fine as long as you don't want to quickly remove the outer case. You can't do it fast. Worn alone, I like this OR Foldable Mitten Liner more than other foldable mittens/gloves I own. The biggest difference is that they don't have fingers under the folding glove. It's basically a halved mitten, which I prefer to a halved glove. It's less restrictive and warmer. They also overlap more than others I have, especially on my thumb. Great work ORSo the outer shells of the mittens are great. The inner gloves are excellent. But together, as a system, it doesn't work the way I hoped. They're not really designed for quick earbud removal and immediate finger use. This may or may not matter to you depending on your needs, but to me any glove that uses a liner as part of the system should release quickly to allow for quick finger use. Other than that the only other negative I have is a magnet which I thought I would love. It feels like the coin is bouncing off my fingers. I do not like it. I have other flip back mittens that have magnets but you don't feel the magnet inside like these do. I would have preferred velcro to this design or more material between the magnet and fingers. In very cold weather when I know I'll have to quickly use my fingers to take photos etc. I'll probably wear the standard glove liners inside and use these internal foldable mittens alone in fall weather. On their own, they are excellent mittens for photographers. For warmth, I just tested them on my Dakine Scout mittens, which cost about the same. The temperature was 12 degrees Fahrenheit. The wind chill factor was -7 degrees Fahrenheit. To avoid inaccuracies due to the possibility of better blood flow in one arm, or due to slight wind/temperature changes from wearing one brand to the other, I wore each brand at the same time, on different arms of course, and then switched hands afterwards, like the clear winner was determined. Same results for both hands. After about an hour of doing nothing but operating the snow plow, they were much warmer than the Dakins. It didn't freeze my hands at all, but they got very cold from Dakina. Based on this test I would say the packaging rating is accurate meaning they are rated to zero degrees Fahrenheit.
