Review on WORKPRO W032013 Aluminum Spring Clamp by Josh Allen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sturdy body with a firm grip and soft tips

I saw these while browsing the Workpro/Great Star website and decided to give them a try. I don't recall ever seeing this type on the market unless Wolfcraft had them 25 years ago or something like that(?). They don't seem to be very popular or sold in the US, but maybe more so in Europe and Southeast Asia. I think they deserve more attention than they could have. I have a couple of medium and four small 3/4. They're really pretty and made from durable die-cast aluminum - they feel like they're meant to last forever and hopefully never break. The smaller ones don't have rubber grips, which I like. The grip pads on the big ones seem unnecessary but they're decently finished and if they ever get damaged or dropped the clips come in handy without them. The tips are soft enough that they don't exactly touch when closed, but in use they work great and that's not a problem at all and they definitely do a better job than the hard plastic tips on many models. They are slightly softer than typical stamped steel spring clips. They have about the same spring strength as most steel clips and more than most nylon clips and no flexible nylon body. The clamps do have a little side-to-side wobble in the joint, though, which I can probably fix, but I also don't think it's a big deal to spend time on. The bigger ones have a little more of it in the mix. Overall I really like them and will put them to good use - they are unique and to me they will actually fill a useful niche where there were times when regular stamped steel or nylon spring clips weren't quite up to the task. The Workpro line is a subsidiary of a large manufacturing company, Great Star, and they do a really great job with a lot of the products including the production of the current Jorgensen clamps that they own now and have been able to keep the good old quality of when they were here made in the USA. They are more than a seller's trademark, they are actually a manufacturer and a company with a long history. Pretty good thing to consider.

Pros
  • Spring clips
Cons
  • Legacy model
