Review on 🏠 Effortless Home Automation: SimpleHome XWS7 1001 WHT Wi-Fi Controlled Outlet by Rob Parsons

The hardware works, the software has many problems.

I would like to offer my services as a software developer (or at least as a QA engineer) at Simple Home. This device works, but has several serious flaws. The biggest problem in offering my services is that I seem to have to relocate to Greenwich, England as their software developers and/or testers seem to live there. How else to explain the fact that the scheduler runs on UTC time? I live in California and wanted to set the plug to turn on at 7:30pm. I set it to turn on at 7:30pm and found that instead of turning on at 7:30pm, it turns on at 12:30pm. Hmm, 7 hours difference. Oh wait, California (during Daylight Saving Time) is 7 hours behind UTC! So I changed it to turn on at 2:30am, and it actually turns on at 7:30pm! Another thing I noticed when changing the start time was that sometimes the change took effect in the scheduler and sometimes it didn't. ! There are two different ways to edit a schedule. One saves changes and the other doesn't! (I'd tell you which one, but the scheduler doesn't seem to work if you're not on the device's WiFi network!) Of course, this all happened after I plugged into my WiFi network. It only took about 10 attempts (Note: Do not use Wi-Fi networks that combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz under the same SSID). In general it works, but not as easily as we would like. The hardware seems up to the task, but the software falls far short of what one would expect these days. FYI, I bought it from a website owned by Revain, not Revain himself. ***Update: two weeks later he was completely dead. The switch is off. I can't turn it on. Since I'm not in the hardware business, I need to retire my offer of development or QA services. ***
