Review on πŸ“ž Snom 821 IP Phone: Enhanced Communication Solution for Modern Businesses by Rusty Lyons

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A very well made and elegant phone with an average number of problems with IP telephony.

We deployed 50-60 with Asterisk. They're not perfect, but they're pretty decent compared to other IP phones. Will there be firmware issues and minor glitches? Yes. Any time a product has the same number of configuration options and features as these devices, it's in constant flux. I don't care, but that's the current state of the art we live in. The usability and interface of this phone is great and requires very little tweaking to make it work well with Asterisk. Complaints from other reviewers about a reputable speakerphone. The speakerphone is far from the best. However, it's not necessarily just quiet and difficult to hear. There are tweaks and adjustments that can be made to the phone and PBX, but it's very difficult to get it "right" (if at all possible). speakerphone. Also, it doesn't "detect" freezes fast enough, so you usually hear the crackling sound of the phone on the other end when you're paging or making calls. Had Snom focused on these core audio issues, this model would have been truly exceptional. Sometimes they hang loading and sometimes they need to restart, but this is a computer with a handset so again it's fine. One problem we ran into was an annoying nuisance: the phone book/contact list can be loaded from the company's central phone list/database, but when they are updated the only option is to _overwrite_ them. This is not a problem unless a single user has added multiple of their contacts to the list. The internal phone book really needs to be split in half so updates to the corporate contact list don't erase individual user preferences.
