As already mentioned, the radio receiver is quite large. I had to install mine in the ceiling (in the attic) above the drywall next to the fan box. The device operates on RF and IR, so installing it on the attic side of the drywall will not affect performance. The difference between this controller and 1/3 cheaper remotes is that this kit dims the light rather than simply turning it on or off. The three wires going to the fan could be an additional 12 inches longer for easier routing in and out of the junction box.
