I believe the case protects the iPad very well. I love the cut outs, the color and the overall design. But it's a lot thicker than expected. For me, the thickness adds weight, which reduces the feel of the Mini and its lightness. With that one downside, I don't feel like it's a big enough downside to come back. I'll go because I like everything else about it.
