Review on Sabatier 5164683 Adjustable Tabletop Mandoline by Pamela Jones

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great for food, but not for music

Ideal for cutting all kinds of vegetables and other hard foods in the kitchen. Much less for Appalachian music since it's really hard to tune. Primarily made of plastic but very durable and much cheaper than an all-metal mandolin, this is a good introduction to the versatility of the mandolin in the kitchen. You can prepare a batch of chopped potatoes for chips or radishes and carrots for pickling in minutes with much more even slices than you can by hand. Dishwasher safe (I would use a top shelf and "mild" liquid dish soap) The cutting edges are stainless steel and should hold up well if not abused. I don't think they can be sharpened so handle them with care. If you have one, you will wonder why you haven't got it for a long time, it will become indispensable for convenient cooking. The guard can be a little awkward to use, but get used to it as it's less uncomfortable than trying to relearn how to use your hand when you're missing a fingertip or two. ;) This *works* for tomatoes, but they have to be firm. Switches will only make a mess.
