We use it to replace old stereo speakers so it takes up less desk space. It serves that purpose well, with a small footprint. As a bonus, there are no other wires or wall warts. It is powered by the USB port of the PC and does not require an additional power supply. We were surprised that the sound is pretty good when we turn it on. The lack of a volume control on the speaker itself doesn't bother us since we'll put it on the back of the desk anyway. We can use the PC volume control. The computer determines this and no software is required.
