Chrome plated steel - even with the potential for rusting it should last longer than the plastic it replaces. It is 15 cm [6 inches] long. I solved it by bending the T-Bar. Another argument for metal, it's easier to replicate than plastic! I haven't tested it in blustery winds - but it's heavy enough, I think it'll survive better than the door it's attached to. The latch is wide enough to allow easy insertion of a T-bar. an elegant door lock, but I would prefer a strong and sturdy one to an elegant one.
