Review on KOHLER GENUINE 84999 TOILET ANCHOR by Stephen Johnson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's funny that it's initially required, but it does what it's supposed to do

This is only needed for Kohler One Piece toilets where you can't access the screws from below, which hold the toilet seat in place because it is in a cavity with only one hole at the top - the hole where the screw goes. Don't make me start with an idiotic design. For about $25 you can get a tool, old anchor nuts, tools to install new anchor nuts, and two anchor nuts. At Revain, you can buy nuts for $9 each (you need 2, which costs $18). Or pay a few bucks more and get the tools. I didn't need a disassembly tool as I had already drilled out the old anchor nut. You can use a crescent wrench to hold the nut in place while tightening, but I've decided to buy a kit in case I need a removal tool in the future. There is a video on YouTube showing how to remove and install anchor nuts. I can highly recommend it. I also recommend tightening the anchor nuts slowly as they can break. Remember that if you break them, they cost $9 each. So tighten, loosen, check that they are tight, repeat. Difficult but cheaper. Finally, to add insult to injury, the video tells you to use some sort of anti-seize compound on the anchor nut threads, but they don't bother to supply it or even tell you which one you should use. The only ones I could find via google seem to be for spark plugs. At least now I know that my anchor nuts will remain protected even in extremely high temperatures. Like throwing it in the fire out of frustration. To recap, it does what it's supposed to do at mugshot prices, and it's an insult that it's needed at all.
