Shimano make quality pedals and no Shimano pedal has ever given me any problems. I've been using A530 pedals for about 10 years and bought this newer model because. good because they are newer model. The only difference I can tell is that these pedals have extremely light release. Even with the all new SH51 cleats and the adjuster screw all the way out, there is very little resistance to clipping (or retracting). Older A530s could get awfully tight with worn lugs, so this new 'lightweight' edition is probably not bad, just different. Update six months in advance: I really appreciated the effect of the light trigger. I was afraid I might accidentally pull them out, but that wasn't a problem for me (don't use silver spikes - they pull out unexpectedly). These pedals allow me to turn them on and off smoothly and easily, which is great for commutes and layovers. The flat side is also very grippy thanks to the screw-in cleats that you can attach as you wish. This is a big update for the old 530s.
