I'm glad I decided to look into the salt and pepper shakers. They were dirty inside. And the hole is so small that I had to use a small straw brush (pictured) to clean the inside. I also used a foam brush and both turned out dirty despite using soap and conditioner and didn't clean fully either. Rubber stoppers are very difficult to remove; One had what appeared to be tobacco flakes staining the plastic. I actually googled whether to clean or not before first use and the results made me happy I thought about it. My hands were dirty after touching them, so I thought maybe they weren't clean inside. I was right. The product looks good but should be improved to have a fully unscrewable base for easy cleaning. Of course, they don't come clean from the factory, but at least they're easy to clean. After an hour I realized that I would never pull out all the black material. I gave up.
