I bought this unit to connect my ROKU-3 to an old TV that doesn't have HDMI ports and it works! (Both audio and video work fine.) I wanted to buy a ROKU-3 for this TV because I knew the TV would need to be replaced in the not too distant future and I wanted all of my ROKU devices to be the same and I didn't want to settle for ROKU with limited features just to get the right built-in link. how it goes. So when I found this device advertised as ROKU Stick I thought there was a good chance that it would work with all ROKU models, HDMI ports, so I took a chance and ordered one. Here's what I found: 1) This converter works quite well with ROKU-3 and should also work with other ROKU models with HDMI output. 2) There is another "model" of this converter that comes with a 5V 1Amp USB power adapter, which is actually the best option for use with the ROKU-2 and ROKU-3. So far I understand is the only difference between two models - turn on the power supply. 3) The quality of the video was pretty much what I expected, which means I was happy with it. Don't expect 1080p resolution. In addition, the device compresses the aspect ratio of the incoming signal to fit the screen, instead of "cropping" the image. Probably the most striking aspect of the picture quality is that any text on the screen is a little harder to read than if it were displayed in 1080p.4) The HDMI converter comes with a USB cable to power the device. My advice is to use it, but don't connect it to the ROKU for power. I tried using the converter without the power cord and everything worked fine. I tried plugging the power cord into the HDMI converter and into the USB port on the ROKU-3 to power it and it still worked fine. But in both cases I noticed that ROCU-3 heats up. I ended up with a 5 volt, 1 amp USB power supply, so I used this to power the HDMI converter directly from a wall outlet, but still used the USB cable that came with the converter. This configuration seems to work best, but ROKU still seems to run a little hotter. than my other which doesn't need to go through an HDMI converter. 5) Whatever HDMI converter you buy, make sure it is HDCP compliant. If your converter does not include this security protocol, it cannot convert some video signals from ROKU. This HDMI converter works quite well with ROKU-3. What worries me is the fact that my ROKU-3 connected to this unit gets a little warmer than my ROKU-3 connected directly to the TV. The time will show. This HDMI converter works well enough for ROKU-3. What worries me is the fact that my ROKU-3 connected to this unit gets a little warmer than my ROKU-3 connected directly to the TV. The time will show. This HDMI converter works well enough for ROKU-3. I am concerned that my ROKU-3 connected to this device will be a bit warmer than my ROKU-3 connected directly to the TV.
