It has good plug placement options. I really like that I can connect USB charging cables directly. Haven't used USB-C yet so can't speak to charging performance. I haven't been in thunderstorms either, so I can't speak about surge buffering capabilities. The plug goes straight into the wall, not a flat plug. Where I use it I need a straight connector. All flat connectors lead the cable to the right; I have a bookshelf there and I can't use it. So far I'm happy with this extension.
