You must follow the instructions. If you do, this thorn finder (and more) will do as it is asked. I highly recommend this item.

Wire Warning Indicator & Low Battery Indicator --- Wire Warning Indicates live AC wires in all modes to help prevent potentially serious accidents. The battery level icon is displayed when the battery level is getting low.
