I have two of these yellow floats. I spend a lot of time sailing and sailing lessons. I take a lot of photos. I have these floats attached to my phone. My phone stays in my front pocket and the cord is long enough for the float to stay in my back pocket. I can sit down and the float shrinks enough to not be a problem. The float is also big enough to fit my hand in; This keeps the phone attached to me if I drop it. I haven't tested this, but I believe it will work and it's a better option than knowing my phone will sink to the bottom. I have a Samsung S20+. Its IP68 is based on test conditions when submerged in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, so this float should perform flawlessly. I had to find a case to attach the straps.
