Review on πŸ—ΊοΈ Exploring the Road: Garmin Zumo 595LM GPS Navigation System by Darrell Beecher

Revainrating 5 out of 5

All in one tool for GPS, finder and accessories

Excellent product. many functions, it takes some time to learn everything. The seller shipped the product and it arrived on time. Well packaged and including MC mount with integrated wiring harness, necessary parts to mount on MC + car mount and power cord with cigarette. light adapter. I would describe the wiring harness as an umbilical cord. The MC mount's 3-4 foot rubber cover contains all the wires coming out of the 'plastic'. Splitter separately: two wires to your chosen power source. I suggest a point that turns on via the ignition switch, a direct connection to the battery will result in a persistent state when the unit is in the cradle. There is also a long cable that ends in a USB connector that I routed around the back of the touring pack mount and into the left saddlebag. The lid of the bag will not damage the cord because there is a rubber seal on the lid. The remaining three wires (in a rubber case) are a microphone. Input, audio input and audio output. Audio 3.5mm, smaller microphone. I decided to turn on the microphone. Wire and audio out just behind the left hand bag mount and let them hang down the side of the bike so they can hang under the seat. The audio output goes through the bike, behind the tank and hangs down the right side. (The hose runs under the back of the tank and exits where the front of the seat meets - all the lines come out of the fairing just before that on my setup.) Clearance so you can connect it to the common input to the radio with just enough voltage to prevent the cable from coming out of the top of the rocker. If you connect a phone to the 595 and want phone audio to play through the radio, you will need to select that option on Zumo. The micro SD card slot is located on the top right side of the device's battery compartment. You can access this card from your computer by connecting the Zumo with the short USB cable provided, or by inserting the SD card into your computer before inserting it into the Zumo. I suggest creating a folder called Garmin on the SD card. You can put your own GPX files in there, just move them from your old Garmin if you have one. You can also play the MP3 file recorded on the card, but I don't think you can listen to music and hear the blue tooth sound at the same time. I'm still learning after switching from the Zumo 550 which I liked so I'm just writing my experience after putting the unit on my Ultra Limited. I didn't remove my fuel tank to route the wiring, I just unbolted it front and back to get the cover underneath. On newer Harleys they have made a tunnel under the tank next to the frame (both sides?) where you can route the wires more neatly under the tank. Whatever you do, make sure the shroud has enough slack from the mount to the tank to allow the bars to swing freely from side to side. I just ran 660 miles and the 595 isn't that easy to pre-program with favorites. It wants to give you a lot of "location not found". However, you can get around this by either getting the latitude and longitude of the location (possibly outside of Google Earth) or when you reach that location, tapping the screen and selecting "Save". I don't like the 3D rendering of the map, maybe I can turn that off. And the on-screen petrol and diner icons (which appear automatically) bother you when viewing some interchanges, while they're good, they bother me.
