The thermometer is amazingly easy to use, so simple I got confused when I got 185-195 degrees Fahrenheit for my forehead temp and my kids' forehead temp. So I did something that shouldn't be necessary with such a simple device: I read the instructions. Here's what I checked: (1) checked that the sensor was clean; (2) used at home; (3) don't point it at my eyes (actually good to know); (4) do not let children play with it; (5) do not use abrasive cleaners; (6) not raping my ear canal; (7) Do not keep it in a very cold or very hot place (stored in my living room, 68 degrees Fahrenheit); (8) use them for any other purpose; (9) wait 10 seconds between measurements; (11) Keep the thermometer out of the sun, in a dry, dust-free, well-ventilated place between 50 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit or in very humid places. Additional Instructions: (1) Indoor use; (2) the user is quiet; (3) wait somewhere 30 minutes; (4) wait 10 minutes before use; (5) Do not squeeze the thermometer for too long. At first I got readings of 185 degrees Fahrenheit or more for my forehead. Later, after playing with this thing for a little longer, I was able to stabilize the temperature at 104 degrees by wearing it directly on my forehead. It was 130+ degrees at 1 inch from my forehead. But the range was crazy: from 105 to 199 degrees and never in the physiologically acceptable range. When measuring my coffee, which was steaming and holding exactly 135 degrees Fahrenheit, the reading apparently happened to be either 111 or 150 degrees. My table temperature was 144 degrees. I really don't know how this product got such good reviews. This is a completely useless product.
