Review on ๐Ÿšฝ Bemis 500EC 390 Lift Off Toilet: A Reliable and Convenient Bathroom Essential by Michael Welborn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If you have a throne, it must have a good seat :)

All my life I've had to change toilet seats and/or mess with their hinges every few years. The problem is that the toilet is porcelain which means you can't tighten the crappy plastic screws that keep the toilet seat from sliding when you sit on it. This means that the toilet seat has a tendency to slip over time (causing cheap plastic screws to break) even if you use rubber compression washers. Add to that the fact that plastic screws often loosen and need to be tightened, and are generally difficult to manage. In addition, the floor of any toilet, no matter how clean the person using it, comes to the surface from constant contact with human excrement, moisture and water. Here's Bemis who decided to rethink the entire toilet seat attachment system. The Bemis has two long, round-head plastic screws that slide through the bolt holes in the bottom of the toilet (and you can tighten them pretty tight). Then snap the toilet seat onto the two plastic heads of these screws, then twist the caps into the locking position. Not only does this make attaching the seat a lot easier, it doesn't move at all and if you ever want to remove the seat to clean it takes 5 seconds. As for the finish, the Bemis has some kind of plastic coating. Wood that truly outlasts any other toilet seat I've used in my home in the past. It won't last forever but my three Bemis seats are still working (one after seven years) compared to about 2-3 years I get from a regular toilet seat. The finish is very durable and I don't have the usual deterioration or yellowing that I see with other toilet seats. When you combine a simple mounting system with the best workmanship and a reasonable price, you get a five star product. I never in my life thought I would take the time to inspect a toilet seat, but these bemis are something special. I recommend it for donkeys everywhere :)
