When I asked about this I decided I needed a juicer when Trader Joe's hadn't had my pineapple juice in weeks and hadn't shipped in a month. I'm used to skipping coffee and drinking a can of Trader Joe's pineapple juice whole. (And I highly recommend it too!) It just didn't suit me, so I thought, just thinking about getting myself a juicer. I have never owned or used a juicer like this before. It just seemed like the juicer was something else - special people. Then, after I left out the pineapple juice, bought some extra virgin pineapple juice, and then some more of that wonderful Whole Foods Watermelon Ginger Juice, which is another favorite of mine — and both are luxury products — I started doing some research. Martha Stewart was my first. stay in research. She's one of those "special people" I mentioned, and if anyone knows, it's Martha, I thought. Well, all I remember from Martha's comments about juicers is that you should get a "really good one," dear. For Martha, a good juicer is probably a $2,200 model. The cheapest juicers? Maybe. $399 you can buy at Bed Bath & Beyond. I knew I needed good pineapple juice in my life. I also really wanted to save as much plastic. Both TJ's Pineapple Cold Press Juice and WF's Watermelon Ginger Juice are available in plastic bottles. I'm so fed up with plastic! My conscience tormented me. That's when I started looking into juicers here at Revain. I wouldn't invest $400 or even $200 in a juicer unless I knew I was going to actually use it. Around the same time I came across a model very similar to this one. There were some good reviews, but some also mentioned that the motor burned out and struggled with returns. I hate returns. They just ruined my work day (although now I see that I can send things back via WF which is good to know, but I still don't want to bother with the return). Someone reviewing another brand (and I can't remember which it was) said they returned it and bought a Hamilton Beach juicer because they trusted the brand for having been around for so long. So I checked out some Hamilton Branch models. I don't remember why I chose this one, but I'm glad I did. I have benefited so much from it! I was skeptical of such a cheap juicer, but I figured even if it's mediocre, maybe it'll last a few months and everything will be fine. So that's all I was looking for - alright. Well this juicer far outperforms a regular one, I use it almost every day. I thought I should drink pineapple juice every morning. But it was the tangerine and clementine juices that got me hooked! I can't believe how much I love this. I grew up near an orange grove, so I lost my taste for store-bought OJs long ago. Tastes bitter and just awful to me. I forgot how good a really fresh OJ is. It takes me 10 minutes at most to peel enough clementines or tangerines to fill a shoot. It then takes about 40 seconds for the juicer to squeeze out about 6 ounces of the best juice I've ever had, unless I was right there in the orange grove when they made the juice. Orange juice that has been squeezed too hard is simply unbeatable. It's the nectar of the gods My god it's so good. I have also made many watermelon juice mixes. I even put the peel in the juicer as it contains nutrients too. This juicer does that well. I've tried strawberries, they aren't made for this type of juicer, but I just took the pulp out of the bucket and rinsed it through again myself. Let me just say that the watermelon and strawberry juice is divine too. pineapple juice too. Pineapple-ginger, pineapple-orange, all sorts of mixes. Oh yeah, I forgot, watermelon pickle juice is wonderful too. And it's fresh with no added sugar. Why even add sugar to watermelon or pineapple juice? They are filled with fructose and still so sweet. If you make them yourself, you can control them. I saw watermelon cucumber juice in the store but it was full of sugar. Not mine. One night I remembered that I once drank fresh passion fruit juice in South America and it was so good. I couldn't find any fresh passion fruit nearby, but WF had frozen chunks of passion fruit. Back to the races - I've spiked all kinds of juices with passion fruit. Passion fruit is beautiful, just divine, but it's the kind of fruit that needs a sweetener, so I add quite a bit to pineapple or citrus juice and wow what a flavor explosion. I overdid it a bit with the passion fruit (so moderation is one of my problems in life). Don't do this unless you like grapefruit (and I don't at all). It was too tart and sour, it tasted a lot like grapefruit. So I reduced the passion fruit chunks and made some delicious concoctions. This juicer has become a great addition to my kitchen. I use it so often I just leave it on the counter. Sure, it's a little clunky, but no matter how many times I use it, it stays on the counter. After reading reviews of many juicers, I realized that cleaning them up was going to be a real hassle. I was pleasantly surprised by this. As long as you clean it up fairly quickly after use, it's not difficult at all. I don't even use a lot of soap, if at all, with some juices because it's a must. There's a good stiff brush for cleaning the basket and it works surprisingly well. All other parts are fairly easy to clean. If you let it sit for, say, a day (or worse, overnight), it smells like you're fermenting fruit to make your own cheap wine. Do not do that. If nothing else, at least rinse it and clean it later. It's not difficult to clean. It's pretty easy. The sound didn't bother me and reading reviews of many juicers they sound very loud, way too loud. I wouldn't call it quiet, but my dog doesn't run like I turn on a hair dryer or a vacuum cleaner. It's really not that bad. It's just not quiet, but it's done so quickly that it's not a problem for me. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for one reason: I suspect that a quality juicer (one that Martha Stewart would definitely approve of) will squeeze out more juice than this one. I think I may be wasting some juice/food on this, and it worries me, if only for the reason that I wish we all wasted less food (and used less plastic). This is my only complaint. I am very happy with this juicer. It has made an amazing addition to my kitchen and life. I'm so glad I took the risk. It far exceeded my expectations. Whoever wears it I'll search for "really good" but this one is great for my needs at the moment. Great price, lots of creativity in the kitchen, one of the best things I've ever bought for myself.
