Works very well for removing copper from the SW tank. But there's no mystery about what it is and how it works. It is simply a silicate based deionizing resin used in every reverse osmosis system. I took off 2 stars because you can literally buy a non-Seachem resin that does the same without the fancy packaging or high retail markup. If you have a reverse osmosis system everywhere to buy replacement filters, chances are there is tar in there. Revain also sells deionizing resins. I saw it for £3 for $33 with free shipping.
