I have a 5th gen 4runner and replaced the factory head with a Pioneer. Toyota's AM/FM antenna uses 2 antennas for the factory HU, while Pioneer can only use one. So if you use a Toyota antenna on a Pioneer, you'll get really bad reception. since you can only connect one "side" of the antenna. This is where I started looking for a replacement antenna that would work decently and not require drilling or attaching to the outside of the car. I found a GF-Link antenna and decided to try it, thinking I'd send it back if it didn't work properly. To my surprise, it clearly can. I then experimented with the placement of the antenna and decided to mount it on the back of the rear view mirror, mainly because it is completely unobtrusive and has great reception there. as it happens in the outback.
