First off, it's SO sparkly! The rhinestones are close set and look way better than I expected. I wasn't expecting much because of the price. I love changing my dogs collars, so it doesn't make sense to buy $100 rhinestone collars every couple months. I prefer cheap ones that I know wont last forever, as long as the look good for a few months. My pitbull has been wearing this for about 3 weeks and it still has all the rhinestones (even with her scratching it with her claws in the mornings). It's not velvet, but it has the appearance. It's more like a dense foam band, almost like the sole of a flip flop. It is a wide band that tapers at the buckle and the holes. I recommend making sure you purchase the right size (don't upsize). I got one a bit too big--it fits, but on the first 2 holes--so it takes away a lot of the tapered part, which makes it wider under her neck. If it we're smaller and buckled closer to the end, it wouldnt be so wide under her neck. It's not a big deal, but it looks uncomfortable.
