I looked at my DMT Aligner Pro elsewhere; This is a great tool for those of us who are confused with sharpening. This was purchased to complement this set to do what I mentioned in the title. It is coarse enough to shape the blade the first time without any routine work. For example, I've never been able to get my ka-bar *really* sharp to the end of the blade. The more I looked at the edge through a magnifying glass, the more I realized that its parts weren't actually shaped the way I actually sharpened the edge; I only polished the sides of the blade. A night in front of the TV with this stone made sure of that, and Ka-Bar now shaves sharply the entire length.
