Review on πŸͺ“ The Competition Thrower: World Axe Throwing League Premium Competition Throwing Axe with Throwing Hatchet Hickory Wooden Handle by Christopher Buck

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good ax for beginners and a good backup ax for advanced throwers.

Looking at these axes (I bought 2) my first thought is that the handles need replacing. One of the handles has an almost perfect grain alignment (almost completely parallel to the tip of the axe), but the blows on it are a little closer. The other has a fiber orientation that is just over 45 degrees to one side and has almost no visible ridges. On the handle and on the ends are the arrow/triangle patterns you may see on the side of the handle. These two things correlate to the strength and durability of the handle and the likelihood of it breaking. Now let's move on to an overview of throwing. I actually bought these as starter axes for some people I turned into ax junkies. It's (about 1.5 pounds) with a 14 inch handle, so I had to tweak my casting position a bit to throw it. Some people say the handles are too slick or slip out of your hand too easily, and that's really personal preference, and some who are professional ax throwers or trainees might even caution against putting tape on them in the first place to avoid contact with to avoid the grip. protrudes too long in the hand. All in all, these are great axes for beginners, but be warned: there's a 50/50 chance you'll end up with a not-so-decent handle, so be prepared to fit a new one. Also, the white head polish may scratch and scrape easily, so you may or may not want to take it off. Update: The two axes I bought here are holding up great. As stated in the original review, the people I bought these for are newbies and they love them. I ordered a starter kit from WATL myself which included one of these and a large axe. This has increased my personal collection to 6 different axes and of these, this competitive thrower is my number 2 in the lineup.
