Review on Miller MB54A 510LP Toughcut Propane Welding by Jesus Jenkins

Great little set, great price

I found this purchase very difficult for a number of reasons. I've used a lot of oxygen/acetylene but never a propane torch. I keep a ton of propane on hand to run my forge, so it's MUCH more profitable to use a propane torch. I was very happy with this burner. I live in Victor Country so when I need tips I have to order them and wait a few days but I knew that was going to happen when I bought this. I can cut 2 inch railroad track with surprising ease. I can't tell how clean the cuts are because I have rheumatoid arthritis which makes me tremble so my cuts are always dirty. Flame control requires a higher learning curve than acetylene. Basically you have to experiment. For acetylene, set it depending on the type of cutting flame. I found your audition with propane for the right sound. Because the oxygen is supplied at a much higher pressure, the burner is VERY LOUD! Wear hearing protection after setting up the flashlight. I am very happy with this burner. I even dropped it in a dirty tip once and thought I was going to have a lot of trouble until I found tip cleaner, but it still works great. Finally, if you're worried about not having enough cutting power, there's a special kind of propane you can call pentaine. It's been described as propane on steroids, but for what I make in my little shop, it's an overstatement. Pentaine is still half the price of acetylene. You use a lot more oxygen with propane, but it's still cheaper than acetylene.
