In my experience these sliders last longer and are more reliable than the larger gallons. I don't know why this is, except maybe I use the slider to open/close large bags more often than quart sized bags. However, both sizes are more secure than non-zipped models. Until I have some plastic rollers and a sealer I will use these. A NOTICE. I do NOT recommend that you put food in plastic, but you should do your own research and make your own decision. However, I keep some opened spices in their original pouches in recycled plastic ziplock bags. Optimally I'd suggest jars and buy fresh - which is now possible since Penzey's opened nearby :) Ziploc is a great way to store stuff though. Don't let the best be the enemy of the good!
