Review on Sony A8H 65 Inch Compatibility by Shane Popo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Brand new TV, less than 1 hour and the problem occurs!

Edit September 17: First of all I would give Revain 10 stars if possible. After the Sony tech support fiasco, I decided to contact Revain, who happily sent me a new TV free of charge right away. Great service - I should have thought of that first! Sony responded to my initial review below and received a call when I opened a case but they wanted me to send them a video and photo so they can later decide whether I send the unit to a service repair center or not let a technician fix it at home. Any of those options would take weeks, and Revain avoided all that hassle. The new TV has been working successfully for a week now. Here's my updated review of the device: Pros Incredible OLED-based picture - very good contrast, bright and rich colors Wide range of picture calibration options - from presets to fine-tune settings for advanced users I quickly switched to the Samsung HW-Q90R Soundbar for Dolby Atmos and surround sound. The TV remote control is easy to use. The TV's height is adjustable with legs (that's good news), but look at the cons for the bad news. The ConsTV screen is highly reflective. So be careful when using it in a room with strong ambient light (e.g. lots of windows) as you will see a lot of reflections. As some others have said, the picture isn't as bright as LG or other brands, but you can somewhat overcome this by using "Brightness" as the picture preset and other settings. I also disabled auto dimming. This TV has an eARC HDMI connection that carries all the latest audio options and you can use it to control the soundbar. Sony calls it Bravia Sync. I've connected it to the soundbar's eARC (the soundbar has been updated to the latest firmware) and the connection isn't always reliable. The TV sometimes controls the soundbar by turning it on and adjusting the volume, but sometimes decides it doesn't want to. Perhaps this connection is more reliable with the Sony soundbar, but we don't have either of those to test. had to go to Sony's website to find out and it's not intuitive at all. This is a simple omission in the accompanying documentation. Did I mention Sony's support is a bit disappointing? The IR receiver for the TV is on the bottom edge. If you are using this TV on legs (rather than against a wall), even at maximum height and with ANY soundbar placed in front of it, the top of the soundbar will most likely block the IR receiver. So I'll probably have to buy a wall mount just to mount the TV high enough that the bottom edge is above the top of the soundbar so the remote can control it. If you are a gamer, check out this TV. does not support HDMI 2.1. Overall: This is the #1 or #2 OLED TV based on worldwide reviews, so I don't think you'll be disappointed. The picture is great, especially for animated films (but take a closer look at the picture presets; we found "Cinema" too muted and the colors a little washed out, for example). I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect TV and while it comes close I can't give it 5 stars due to a few flaws. Again, it's worth mentioning Revain's excellent customer support :-) I've always bought Samsung TVs, but settled on the 65-inch Sony A8H OLED for everyday use. Less than 1 hour out of the box, the TV showed a light green vertical line. along the right side. This appears when you turn on the TV, and regardless of the input source, so it's definitely an issue with the TV itself. I've researched this issue and it turns out to be a very common problem with LED TVs of all brands . I then contacted Sony support who had me jump through all sorts of hurdles to upload videos, images etc. who then in turn "reviewed my case" to determine what steps to take next. In other words, it will be at least a week before I can even hope to find someone to fix it - which is unacceptable for a known problem. Despite its size, I'll probably go back to Revain and buy a new one instead of dealing with inept tech support. by Sony. If the new TV isn't a problem I'll consider submitting this review to you. It's a shame because as others have pointed out, the picture quality and black levels are amazing.
