I've been a New Balance fan for many years because early in my running years it was the only shoe that was the right width for my foot. I'm old enough to walk, although I run about 80 miles a month, and they're very good at that. I may not be that familiar with hiking boots but it seems like after a few months they lost their profile / became smooth on the bottom. Also, I like to wear the shoes a little looser and I think the friction on the inside edges is causing the fabric to wear out quicker than I expected. My feet also sometimes rub against each other and the fabric frays a bit on the outer edges. But overall, they're pretty good value for money and do exactly what they're designed to do.
