The threads on the studs match the locknut but not the threaded insert. I had to put each tenon through a 1/4-20 die head to set the threads into action. I also ran a tap through each of the inserts. In the end, all the extra work removed the finish (paint?) from the threads and from some parts of the pointed end. It took over an hour to figure out what was wrong with the fit, running each spike through the die and tapping through each insert. I wondered how many people would go through that much work to install something that shouldn't take that much time and effort. I also wonder if the quality would be better if I spent a little more money and I could focus on installing studs rather than repairing them.
